then again around 1620) is very close to Caravaggio's piece
entitled Judith Beheading Holofernes (1598) and they are similar
for very good reason. Gentileschi was one of the many followers
that imitated Caravaggio's work and style. She and others were
known as "Caravaggistis", or those who studied Caravaggio's style.
A style that seems to portray any personal physical flaw with great
extravagance and using extreme contrast between his light and dark
areas, known as tenebrism. Caravaggio is the sole artist that is
responsible for such and sudden change of style - it is only
expected that he would have followers.
